When we think of training courses that allow us to find a job, we mainly think of those such as CAP, BTS, or DUT, but rarely of the BAFA. However, following recent news, the Brevet d’Aptitude aux Fonctions d’Animateur ( BAFA ) allows us to find a job without too much difficulty, and not just a summer job.
BAFA, training reserved for young people?
For most people, the BAFA is a course allowing young people aged seventeen and over to earn a little pocket money outside of their school period during the quiet months of July and August, by taking children to summer camp.
Of course, these young make up the vast majority of people applying for the BAFA (moreover, it is not too late to register in a center in your region.
Two reasons for its success:
- Mentioning it on your CV opens doors as soon as you want to move towards a career related to childhood (teacher, childminder, nursery nurse, etc.).
- This allows you to make a little money each year, avoiding sending hundreds of cover letters every spring that will remain unanswered – neither positive nor even negative – by recruiters.
Because the BAFA is a diploma that, once obtained, does not require retaking the exam every four years, as is sometimes the case for certain qualifications. Thus, it is possible to renew the experience of children’s entertainers every year with the leisure center of your choice and even to extend your professional activity to all school holidays.

Reform of school schedules and BAFA
But for several months, cities have been looking for hundreds of people who have obtained their BAFA, particularly in the Paris region, as well as throughout the western part of France. Indeed, the reform of school schedules requires the employment of staff capable of providing after-school activities. It is therefore towards the BAFA that mayors have turned, a godsend for young people but not only…
This is how people in their forties, most of them unemployed, registered for the BAFA, so as not to remain inactive. The key: a real job, and not a seasonal job. A little surprised at first, the training centers and associations ultimately had a lot of fun training this generation looking for professional retraining in various activities.
However, job offers are not widely disseminated and remain unanswered in some regions. For example, there is still a shortage of around fifty after-school activity leaders in the northwest of France, and the new school schedules are due to apply from next September. Given that the majority of young people with the BAFA are students, they do not necessarily have a schedule that allows them to take these positions, hence the possibility for people looking for a job to match the profile sought.
How to apply?
But then, what are the tips for becoming an activity leader and making the most of your BAFA? The best thing to do is to contact your local Emploi center to find out about available positions in your area. However, it is quite common to apply directly to a leisure center or to an organization that organizes summer camps.
